How It Works

Look, we get it. Collecting money from your friends is lame…really lame. It’s your job to be a friend, not a bill collector. The Collector’s mission in life is to make this process less lame. Maybe even a little fun. We make it easy for your friends to pay you back, we automatically remind your friends who haven’t paid you to pay, and we give you an easy to understand dashboard to see who’s paid and who hasn’t.

Long story short, we are the easiest and most effective way to collect money from your friends. Period.

Payments

We don’t make your friends download or sign up for a thing. They will get an email with a link, and much like a typical online checkout screen, they can simply use their credit card, debit card, or PayPal account to pay you back. If they don’t have one of those, we can’t help you. No one can.

The Collector charges $1.00 per friend that pays you back. You can automatically pass the fee on to your friends (we highly recommend this option) or have it come from your portion of the collection. It’s totally up to you. We wish we could give it to you for free, but we can’t. Our girlfriends would kill us.

Reminders

The Collector will send your friends an email with a link and easy to follow instructions on how to pay you back. Friends, like they do, will still procrastinate and not pay you back. That’s where our reminders come in. We automatically send those friends emails reminding them that you haven’t converted into a charity organization and they actually do still owe you money. We keep our reminder emails light and slightly irreverent. And as we know not every friend group gets the same jokes, we let you choose the voice or tone of your reminder emails through different Collector Character personas.

When your friends do pay, we automatically let you know and mark them as paid. But what about those friends that don’t want to pay you back or plan on doing so at the bar tonight? Well, we give them the option to select an alternative, offline payment. You’ll get notified, but it’s up to you to select whether or not you are willing to accept it. “No John. I will not accept a Fireball Shot as payment for your Fantasy Football entry fee…but I will take the shot.”

Dashboard

Are you tired of keeping spreadsheets and smart phone notes on who’s paid, when they paid, how they paid, etc? We sure were. Well, we’ve made it real easy for you to keep track of who’s paid and who hasn’t. For those of you more visually inclined, we’ve even created some nice pie charts. It’s like a pop-up book for collecting.

On the dashboard, you will be able to see everyone that owes you money. When they pay, we will automatically mark them as paid. If you want to mark them as paid, you can do that too. So if you’re collecting for an event and they pay you at the door in cash, it’s really easy to keep track of.

So that’s it. We’ve done our best to make this really easy and simple to use. The best part is that it actually works. Use The Collector and you will get paid back quicker, with less effort, and closer to the actual amount you’re owed. Stop trying to get all of your friends to download some app so they can pay you back. They aren’t going to. Trust me. That’s the whole reason I built this.
